Local troops receive a hero’s welcome home

Troops Return Home, Smryna, DE

Delaware National Guard soldiers were welcomed home with a ceremony in Smyrna, on Friday.

The 19 men and women were honored following a one year deployment, overseas in southwest Asia. These troops, among Delaware's finest, are described as the eyes and ears behind the operation serving in the communications section of the army. These soldiers work helped with logistics and movement operations helping the 74 Nation Coalition to defeat ISIS in designated areas across Iraq and Syria.

Even though these troops have been home for a few weeks, that didn't stop the emotions from running high. The word "surreal" kept popping up as soldiers described what it was like to be involved in that mission and now to be back home in the First State.
