Wyatt’s Warriors Foundation gears up for annual walk

Having a child in the hospital can be painful  and physically and emotionally taxing for the whole family. One local mother knows that which is why she is using her experience to help out others.

Jen Shipe is doing it through an annual event called 'Warriors Walk for Wyatt'. The walk is in memory of her two month old baby Wyatt.  Her son was born with a congenital heart defect and passed away shortly after being diagnosed.

Shipe is using her grief to support families who have sick loved ones. One way she is doing it is by raising money for families and preparing packages with essentials for the hospital.

"It is really great to know someone has gone through it with you, and each item you take out there has a lot of thought put into it," says Kristen Schultz, a Warrior Care Package recipient.

"I have found out that there is healing in helping others, and that's why I started the foundation. You're not alone and there is other people out there for support and help you get through it," says Jen Shipe, the founder of Wyatt's Warriors.

Warriors Walk for Wyatt will take place Saturday, May 5th at 10 AM at WinterPlace Park in Salisbury. The family friendly event is free.
