Wicomico Co. public works lays out plan to address flooding issues

Wicomico County has seen it's fair share of flooding , but the good news is that the county is addressing it.
"It gets really really bad, the water rises really quickly," says Craig Brumskin, a resident in Salisbury.
"There are three units that would flood every time ," says Jim Chalmers, another Salisbury resident.
All common of these are concerns that the Department of Public Works hears.
Back in March, Wicomico County held several community meetings so residents can voice issues regarding flooding and drainage, and now officials have pinpointed what's causing it.
"We saw issues with tidal flooding. We saw issues with folks who had their homes located basically in a bowl, where there are just at a low point and there is no drainage of the property. We've seen some residents that would throw their yard clippings, and leaves, soil things like that would clog it up," says Dallas Baker, the Director of Public Works for Wicomico County.
Officials say residents are responsible for cleaning ditches on their property, but the county steps in to do routine maintenance. Officials are also working on providing additional support for residents.
"We are looking at various options, whether that is working with inmate crews to cleanup some of those ditches, or getting some more specialized equipment," says Baker.
