Wicomico Co. budget proposes funding for volunteer fire departments

Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver has allocated funding for volunteer fire departments for the proposed FY 2019 budget.

The budget  proposes an increase of $10,000 for each volunteer fire department in the county. Culver has also proposed $30,000 for fire station 13 as part of a sinking fund. This means that Station 13 would have to raise that amount in order for the county to match it.

The money will not go towards the operation of the station,  but rather supplies that they need such as a tanker truck.

"Station 13 wishes to become a mutual aid company, in other words helping  in any other county that needs help,  whether that is a large fire or someone else that is already on a call, " says Bob Culver.
