UPDATE: Student arrested in connection with sexual assault at Salisbury high school

A man was arrested after police say he was involved in a sexual assault that happened last week at a Salisbury high school.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says on Friday, their Criminal Investigation Division was called to investigative a sexual assault that happened at Parkside High School, during school hours. Deputies say the incident happened on Tuesday.

Detectives report that a 14-year-old victim was sexually assaulted by the suspect, who was later identified as 19-year-old Jose Miguel Vazquez-Ramos, of Salisbury. According to the report, Vazquez-Ramos sexually solicited the victim using text messaging.

Law enforcement says on Monday, Vazquez-Ramos was arrested on the charges of sex offense third degree, sex offense fourth degree, assault second degree, and sexual solicitation of minor.

He is being taken to the Wicomico County Detention Center for further processing.

The Wicomico County Board of Education tells 47ABC that Vazquez-Ramos is suspended from school and school activities. A decision on whether he will be allowed to graduate has not yet been made, officials say.
