UPDATE: Kent Island assault investigation reportedly leads to Dept. of Juvenile Services referrals

Several students were reportedly referred to juvenile authorities in connection to the investigation of an April assault that happened at Kent Island High School.

WMAR, the Baltimore ABC affiliate, reports that five players from the Kent Island High School Junior Varsity Boys' Lacrosse team will be referred to the Department of Juvenile Services on May 22. The referral reportedly came from the Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office for the alleged offenses of false imprisonment and second degree assault. 

According to WMAR, the teens will be reviewed by the DJS, who will determine the required guidance, treatment and rehabilitation pursuant to the standard protocol of the department. 

On April 20, the Queen Anne's County Board of Education canceled the Kent Island High School Junior Varsity Men's 2018 season as a result of the investigation in to the alleged assault. Authorities report that incident happened on April 13, in the school's locker room.

On Friday, 47ABC reached out to the Queen Anne's Sheriff's Office regarding the reported referrals and the ongoing investigation. An official with the law enforcement agency stated that the investigation is still ongoing and they are interviewing witnesses to determine the suspects involved in the alleged incident.
