Staff concerns at Dorchester County Public Schools

If you live in Dorchester County, you should know that schools could be seeing a significant decline in staff next year, most notably, teachers.

There is a lot speculation that this may be caused by poor teaching salaries.

Dorchester County actually has the lowest starting salary in the State of Maryland.

We spoke with a member from Dorchester County's Board of Education, and they told us that they don't expect to see any unusual drop in teachers next year, and that they will be working hard this summer to recruit teachers from places like Pennsylvania.

That same member said they plan to market all of their benefits to prospective teachers.

Beth Wilson, the Human Resources Assistant Administrator at Dorchester County Public Schools said, "We try to be very welcoming county and assist with everything that they may need, [from] housing to continuing education through our local colleges."

Dorchester County voted unanimously on their fiscal year 2019 budget to not provide extra funds to the Dorchester Board of Education.
