Salisbury unveils new 833 phone information system

With dozens of service numbers in Salisbury, the mayor has unveiled a new 8-3-3-SBY-City dial number to make government officials more accessible to residents.

All residents have to do is dial the number, and they'll be able to reach the city clerk, the fire department, police and information services, among others.

According to officials, about 85 percent of calls the dispatch receives are for non-emergency issues. That's why the city wants to better serve its residents with the new dial system.

"One of the things we found when I came in was that our web address was  [too long and now]  we've simplified that so that the average citizen wouldn't have to try to recall what the city's web address was or search for it in order to type it in," said the Salisbury Mayor Jake Day.

Officials also say the city's website will get a facelift, and a mobile app will eventually be available to residents.
