Ocean View PD hosts civilian response active shooter training

In Ocean View, local police are providing the public the opportunity to learn how they should should respond in the event of an active shooter.
The department will be holding the event next week. Police say they're doing this in response to events happening all over the country, like the Waffle House shooting in Nashville just last week.
In events like that, we're told a lot of people freeze and that's actually the worst thing you can do so they're hoping to teach people some knowledge so they can react properly. Because they tell us yes, police will respond but the first people on scene are going to be civilians.
"Anything they can do to try and stop an attack like this which we don't recommend you do. We recommend you to avoid it, but worst comes to worst you can take action defend yourself, others, and also medically treat people who are wounded," Rhys Bradshaw from Ocean View Police explains.
The active shooter training will be Thursday May 17th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ocean View Police Department building. It is free to the public and they are encouraging anyone in the area to come out.
