High gas prices aren’t stopping tourists from driving to their vacation spot this Memorial Day

The big holiday weekend is about to roll on through and while thousands of drivers are about to hit the road, you may have to adjust your budget.
Make sure to make some room for the amount of money you're going to spend on gas. AAA says, these are the highest prices since 2014. The average price in Maryland is $2.94. Just a week ago, it was a $2.88. A year ago, it was $2.33.
It all comes down to the increase of crude oil prices. And adding fuel to the fire, President Trump's decision to re-impose sanctions on Iran could result in an even bigger hike.
But despite the increase of gas prices, AAA says it won't deter away tourists.
Melanie Pursel, Chamber of Commerce's Executive Director says, "We do expect people to still come regardless of the gas prices, we're still a drive to destination most of the markets you can get here in 3 hours."
Ocean City is expecting over 300,000 visitors to kick off the summer. Tourists are already hitting the boardwalk and the high prices didn't make them pump the brakes.
Bruni Cofresi, a tourist from Alexandra says, "No not at all, not at all, we had a good deal on the hotel cause we came before Memorial Day weekend."
And another tourist from Baltimore says, "You know we didn't think twice about gas prices so honestly even though gas prices are up right now we never stop thinking of traveling right now."
But even though tourists are driving through the most expensive memorial day gas prices since 2014, visitors just want to have some fun in the sun.
"There's a lot of great deals still going on this time of year, so I think people are still going to come. I think we're going to have our biggest Memorial Day that we've had in several years, so we're really optimistic," Pursel says.
