The Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement (DATE) says on Sunday, in the early morning hours, the Dewey Beach Police Department responded to a report of disorderly subjects in the 1800 block of coastal Highway. Police say they noticed 22-year-old Taevon Potts, of Milford, pushing and yelling at other individuals. Authorities say when they attempted to take Potts into custody, he resisted arrest and made threatening statements to police.
At that point, law enforcement says they were soon surrounded by a disorderly and aggressive crowd of approximately 20 to 30 people. According to the report, the crowd refused officers' command to disperse and several additional fights broke out. DATE, the Rehoboth Beach Police Department, and Delaware State Police apparently responded to assist with crowd control. Shortly after, police say the group began to break up. Two DATE agents were then injured by a vehicle that refused to stop, according to authorities.
According to DATE, the driver of the vehicle was later identified as 32-year-old Sherelle Evans, of Milford. Authorities say Evans hit two officers with the vehicle despite commands to stop. Law enforcement reports that as the officers were being pulled, an agent was able to strike the windshield of the vehicle which then stopped.
One agent was refused treatment for minor injuries and another was treated and released from Beebe Hospital.
