Wicomico locations collecting books for underserved children

Dozens of local businesses in Wicomico County are pitching in to help out kids with a community book drive held by the public library.  The month-long event will go to help under-served children in the area.

This is the second annual book drive.  It was established last year for the late S.U. professor, Dr. Ernie Bond.

There are about thirty locations across the county collecting new or gently used books.

The books collected are intended for children up to age eight, and will be distributed to Title I Schools, or other organizations across the county in need of the books.

"In Wicomico County, kindergarten-readiness is one of the factors that Board of Ed and the Wicomico Public Libraries really wants to focus on," says Courtney Armstrong, program and events coordinator for Wicomico Public Libraries.  "In the State of Maryland, we tend to fall in the last two to five of all of the counties in the state.  So we definitely want to help in any way we can by getting books into the hands of children."
