Wicomico Co. man arrested on drug charges after foot pursuit

A man is facing multiple charges after deputies say they found him to be in possession of drugs  and the man assaulted a deputy, in Salisbury.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says on Thursday, around 9:00 PM, deputies were patrolling the area West Road and Olivia Street, when they saw a group of people loitering. Deputies say they smelled that some in the crowd were openly smoking marijuana. Authorities say they Deputies went to speak with the group about the marijuana, when the crowd refused to follow orders and tried to leave.

According to the report, 37-year-old Antonio Deal, of Salisbury, fled on foot and was caught after a lengthy foot pursuit. Law enforcement reports the while attempting to detain Deal, the 37-year-old resisted and assaulted deputies. A deputy reportedly sustained a minor injury during the struggle. Authorities say Deal was disorderly which caused a large crowd to gather.

Deputies say they found that Deal was holding marijuana and multiple baggies of cocaine. The amount of cocaine seized was sufficient to indicate the intent to distribute, according to law enforcement.

Deal was arrested and charged with CDS possession with intent to distribute, disorderly conduct, resist arrest, injuring an officer, unlawful assembly, and assault second degree. 

He was released on $15,000 unsecured bond.
