UPDATE: Wicomico Co. man sentenced for 2017 assault against wife

Norman Joseph Fisher, 39, of Quantico

A man was sentenced for his role in an assault incident involving his wife and children, in Wicomico County.

The Office of the State's Attorney for Wicomico County says on April 19, 39-year-old Norman Joseph Fisher was sentenced to 15 years in the Division of Corrections, five of which is a mandatory minimum. Fisher was sentenced following his January 29 conviction of first degree assault, use of handgun in the commission of a felony, and illegal possession of a firearm. The charges stem from an incident that happened at his Quantico home in 2017.

On February 25, Fisher pointed a rifle at his wife and threatened to killer her. The 39-year-old later put out his wife and their two children in the middle of the night which allowed them to seek safety and call police. Authorities say Fisher was ultimately arrested and two guns along with various types of ammunition was located inside the home. Fisher is prohibited from owning any firearms as the result of his prior criminal history.

In regard to the sentencing, Wicomico State's Attorney Jamie Dykes says, " It is convictions and sentences like Fisher's that help us stop the cycle of domestic violence."
