A school bus driver was charged after police say a bus carrying over 20 students was involved in a crash, in Berlin.

Maryland State Police say on Tuesday, just before 8:00 AM, the MSP Berlin Barrack responded to a crash involving a school bus and a car at the intersection of Racetrack Road (MD Rt. 589) and Beauchamp Road.

According to the report, 77-year-old Richard Fair, of Milton, DE,  was driving a 2005 International School Bus as he failed to yield the right of way when turning left. Troopers say Fair then struck a 2001 Volkswagen car on the driver's side. The car was driven by 32-year-old Brian Raschka, of Berlin. The impact reportedly caused the car to skid off the right side of the roadway.

MSP says 24 students were on the bus and the vehicle was heading to the Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic School (MBS) for morning drop off.

Fire and EMS units from the Showell Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene to evaluate all the parties involved in the crash. The Principal of the Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, Mr. Mark Record, along with several other administrators from MBS also arrived on scene to assist.

Authorities say Raschka received minor injuries and was treated on scene. There were no other injuries as a result of the incident. Police say the bus was able to complete the transport of the children to the Berlin school.

Fair was charged with failing to yield right of way to a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction when turning left.
