Poultry farmers recognized at annual banquet

It was a big night in Salisbury Wednesday, as the who's-who of the poultry industry converged on the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center.

This year, the 62nd Booster Banquet for Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc. drew a crowd of around 900 farmers, industry leaders, and dignitaries.

The banquet recognizes twelve outstanding chicken growers and four individuals for their work on behalf of the chicken industry.

The highest honor was presented to Andrew McLean, of Ruthsburg, Maryland, who is a self-described organic chicken rancher with years of experience in the industry.

Others who took home awards were Michelle Chesnick, the Calhoun family of Dagsboro, and the Derrickson family of Pocomoke City.

Governors John Carney, of Delaware, and Larry Hogan, of Maryland, attended the event and talked a lot about legislation passed in Maryland and Delaware that will help the poultry industry.
