Peninsula Insurance To Close, 40 Employees To Be Laid Off

After more than 50 years, Peninsula Insurance Group will be closing its doors this summer. Their parent company the Donegal Insurance Group says most of the company's employees will be laid off, and the remaining staff will be moved to Donegal's headquarters in Pennsylvania. The company says they wanted to consolidate the business. Donegal is expected to pay up to $2 million in employee termination costs due to Peninsula's closing.
"We've offered positions in the home office to several employees as well as to either a position in the home office or to work remotely from their homes but we do expect to lay off approximately 40 employees effective July 2nd," said Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Donegal Insurance Group, Jeffrey Miller.
The company adds they will be offering severance packages to employees to help smooth the transition until their next place of employment. They're also working with several local employers who've expressed interest in potentially hiring employees from Peninsula Insurance.
