Park officials hope to add more diverse trails

The public was asked for input on the future of trails in Cape Henlopen State Park. Currently, the park has about 18 miles of trails for bike rides, hiking, or walking.
The tentative plan calls for twelve additional miles of trails. We're told the park is growing with the Lewes and Rehoboth communities, and the proposed plans include more diverse trails including narrow trails that mountain bikers or trail runners use.
These new diverse trails can be used to attract more enthusiasts from Baltimore, Washington and Philadelphia.
"With the additional twelve miles should it be built out to twelve additional miles, we're looking at creating a more diverse experience," said David Bartoo, trail planner. "We have a lot of different experiences now, but we're looking to actually increase the type of experiences that people can choose from."
If you missed your opportunity to be there Thursday, you have 30 days to submit a comment online during the public comment period on the plans. After that window is up, comments will be taken into consideration by DNREC's Division of Parks and Recreation.
