Officials: Molotov cocktails used in attempted arson in Caroline Co.; investigation ongoing

An attempted arson remains under investigation after authorities say suspects used molotov cocktails in Caroline County.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal says on Wednesday, just before 11:10 PM, unknown suspects intentionally threw two molotov cocktails from a moving car in the direction of a detached shed, on South 6th Street, in Denton. Officials say the Denton Volunteer Fire Company responded to the incident.

According to the report, one of the molotov cocktails landed in the backyard close to the detached shed, and it set the grass on fire before self-extinguishing. Authorities say the second molotov cocktail hit the shed, but it did not successfully ignite.

Fire officials report that the building and its contents were not damaged during the incident. No one was injured as a result of the attempted arson. This incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call the Upper Eastern Regional Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal at 410-822-7609.
