Officials: Dorchester Co. fire causes over $40K in damages; investigation ongoing

A fire remains under investigation after officials say it resulted in over $40,000 in damages and three people being taken to a Maryland hospital.

The Office of the Maryland Fire Marshal says on Thursday, just after 6:50 PM, the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at a two story home in the 4200 block of Railroad Road. Once on scene, in Hurlock, 40 firefighters worked to put out the fire in 80 minutes. 

According to the report, a female occupant and a neighbor were taken to Dorchester General Hospital and released for possible smoke inhalation. Officials say a firefighter was also taken to Dorchester General Hospital and released for an injury sustained at the scene.

Officials say the blaze began on the front porch of the home and the cause remains under investigation.

The fire reportedly caused $45,000 in estimated total damages.
