Ocean to Bay Bike Tour kicks off

The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce kicked off its 29th Annual Ocean to Bay Bike Tour on Friday. 

The two-day event commenced with a new 15-mile Friday Fun Ride that starts and ends in Bethany Beach. The tour takes riders along Route 1 to the Indian River Inlet Bridge. 

Saturday will open the Century Ride, which will have four different routes that stretch to 100 miles. 

Officials say the Bike Tour is a great way to attract more visitors to local businesses. 

"Every year it gets a little bigger," said the Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Lauren Weaver. 

"The purpose of our chamber is to help build out the shoulder season to support the businesses and the resort communities," said Weaver. 

According to Weaver, the Jefferson Bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. 

Cyclists are advised to hydrate and wear reflective vests.
