Number of mumps cases increases in Delaware

In Delaware the number of Mumps cases continues to rise following the initial outbreak after two multi-cultural dances in New Castle County.
Health officials say there have been two more cases, bringing the total to 15 and the investigation into the source of the mumps virus exposure is ongoing.
Mumps is a virus that can be spread by coughing, sneezing, talking, or sharing items. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, and loss of appetite, swollen glands and swollen jaw.
Health officials recommend that anyone who attended either the February 10th or March 3rd dances–Baile Mejicano that took place at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington – contact their primary care physician to determine if they may have contracted mumps or need a vaccination.
