Maryland’s Legislative Session to Come to a Close

We're just days away from the end of Maryland's 2018 legislative session, and state delegates say time is of the essence. Since the session started in January, The Maryland General Assembly has approved a final budget for the state for a total of $45.5 billion. They lso overrode Governor Larry Hogan's veto of a bill to change how the state makes spending decisions about school construction. But, they still have other legislation to cover and approve in the next three days and the deadline is this Monday, April 9th.
"Whatever's not passed through by midnight Monday night will have to wait until 2019, in some bill's case that's a good thing, and in some cases its not. So we have to be very cognizant of the time we have left on the clock and make sure we're focused on the things that benefit us and not the things that hurt us," said Delegate Carl Anderton.
Maryland's General assembly meets in regular session for 90 calendar days at the beginning of each year and has to act on more than 2,500 pieces of legislation and the states annual capital and operating budgets.
