Local students participate in unique “Trashion Show”

James M Bennett High School hosted their sixth annual "Trashion Show" on Tuesday.
As part of an assignment, art students were asked to create a piece of clothing, an accessory, or even a sculpture out of unconventional materials that might otherwise be thrown away, recycled or considered "trash".
Students created skirts made out plastic, dresses made out of paper, and even a mermaid tail made out of color strips.
Hundreds of students came out to watch the show put on by their peers, and organizers say, they always schedule this event around earth day to raise awareness.
Erin Davis, an Art Instructor at James M Bennett High School said, "Well the "Trashion Show" was conceived about six years ago as a project to go right around earth day where students were making sculptures and assemblages out of trash or recycled materials and it was kind of an effort to shed the light on how things can be recycled and reused and also how you can make things in an unconventional way."
Some students chose to make sculptures out of trash or recycled goods instead of an outfit.
Organizers say this "Trashion Show" attracts more and more spectators each year, meaning it has a bigger impact every year.
