Delaware Senate approves bill aimed at tackling mental health and gun violence

In Delaware, the Senate passed House Bill 302 otherwise known as the Beau Biden Violence Prevention Act that would help keep firearms out of the hands of those who are considered a danger to themselves or others.
Under this legislation the state would require health professionals to report anyone they believe to be dangerous to law enforcement. If this notice gets approval from a judge, that person would have to surrender their firearms.
The act would prevent anyone who has been committed to a mental institution from owning a firearm along with any convicted of a violent crime who is found guilty by reason of insanity, guilty but is mentally ill or is mentally incompetent to stand trial.
Governor John Carney says he plans on signing the bill, a date for his signature is pending.
