Community comes together for Easter holiday celebration

Hundreds of kids, a visit from the Easter Bunny, and thousands of eggs ready to be hunted down.  This was the scene in Delmar, Maryland, Sunday afternoon.  And driving down East Line Road, it was hard to miss the new Easter Tradition taking place at The Southern Belle.

Kids took part in face painting, taking pictures with the Easter Bunny, egg hunting and arts and crafts.  And joining their kids, parents had the opportunity to connect with others from their community.

The Southern Belle is a new facility that recently opened, and we're told coordinating an event of this size took months of preparation.

"It's a great way to bring a small town together.  We have over a thousand people that were expected to come today, so it's definitely a good opportunity to meet new people," said marketting coordinator MacKayla Malone.

We took a poll to find out everyone's favorite part of the afternoon, and there seemed to be a consensus — easter egg hunts.

And this Easter event brings families from across the Delmar area together to enjoy the holiday festivities.

"One of the things we found moving to Delmar is that Delmar is a good community.  They're around in our schools, they're around — they go to football at the schools, Delmar's a pretty active community," says Delmar resident Chris Taylor.

We're told the Southern Belle wasn't the only one organizing this event, they also had help from members of the Delmar community.
