Activists gather to show support for SB 163

Activists were making their voices heard on Route One in another Rally For Our Lives, the second step. This event follows in the footsteps of the March 24th March for our lives held around the nation, with five being held on Delmarva.
The rally was in support of Senate Bill 163, which would prohibit the manufacture, sale, possession or transport of assault weapons, with some exceptions.
"Leave that to the police and to the military. Private citizens do not need those kinds of weapons that have been used to cause so many tragedies in this country," explained organizer and participant Don Peterson.
SB 163 would not apply to weapons previously purchased. Organizers and participants alike say the rally, and the senate bill they support are not against the second amendment itself, but that there needs to be limits, like limits on free speech or free press.
"We are absolutely not against the second amendment, we're not against people having the right to have arms to protect themselves and their families and their homes," says Peterson.
Organizers hope to piggy back off the message from the March 24th March For Our Lives rally that went nationwide, and hope to continue the conversation about gun regulation.
"We had the march on the 24th, we have this demonstration today. We're going to be up at Legislative Hall on the 17th, talking to all of our senators with postcards to tell them how much we care about this issue. We're not going to let this issue die, not this time," said Peterson.
A stand for your rights rally is scheduled in Dover Saturday afternoon from 2 PM to 5 PM. The second amendment rally, and is part of a nationwide state capital event.
