2nd “Art CAN Clean Beaches” campaign looking for local sponsors

2nd “Art CAN Clean Beaches” campaign

Ocean City is trying to keep its beaches clean in a creative and artistic way. The Art League of Ocean City says its looking for sponsors for the 2018 "Art CAN Clean Beaches" campaign.

Officials say local businesses and individuals can "adopt" a beach trash can and personalize it. This is the initiative's second year, after last year's pilot program with 30 trash cans was a success. This year, council members approved the expansion of the program to 800 barrels.

Sponsorships cost $260 per can or $750 for three cans. The Maryland Coastal Bays program receives $10 of the sponsorship money for clean-up efforts. Since the Art League is a nonprofit organization, the sponsorships are tax deductible.

The campaign hopes to have sponsors lined up by the beginning of May, in order to get the customized trash cans on the beach by Memorial Day.

Individuals and businesses who want to sponsor a beach trash can contact Elaine Bean of the Art League of Ocean City by emailing elaine@artleagueofoceancity.org, by calling 410-524-9433, or by visiting their website here.

The Ocean City Center for the Arts at 502 94th Street is the home of the Art League of Ocean City, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the visual arts to the community through education, exhibits, scholarship, programs and community art projects.
