Wicomico Co. real estate agent, council candidate arrested on DUI charges

A Wicomico County Council candidate is facing DUI charges after deputies say she was involved in a vehicle accident, in Salisbury.
The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says on Tuesday, just before 8:30 PM, a deputy responded to a reported single vehicle crash on Jersey Road, in the area of Adkins Road. Once on scene, a deputy noticed a passenger vehicle of road in the ditch. Authorities say it was apparent that the driver had driven approximately 75 yards in the ditch parallel to the road, after initially leaving the roadway.
According to the report, the driver was identified as 51-year-old Julie Brewington of Salisbury, and she appeared confused and uncooperative, while slurring her words.
Deputies say Brewington reported that she drove off the road upon receiving a telephone call.
Law enforcement reports that Brewington would not comply with the deputy's request once at the Sheriff's Office and refused to sign paperwork related to her arrest.
Brewington was charged with driver using handheld telephone while vehicle in motion, failure to Control speed to avoid a collision, negligent driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving while impaired by alcohol.
According to Maryland online election records, the real estate agent is one of the Republican candidates running for the Wicomico County Council seat which is at large.
Brewington was released on personal recognizance.
