Update:State police investigating attempted murder-suicide

Maryland State Police are looking for a motive in an attempted murder and suicide Saturday morning in Crisfield.

Officers from State Police responded to the 2000 block of Silver Lane to reports of gunshots.  Responding officers found Susan Preston, 44, or Delmar, Maryland was found lying on the floor of the living room with a gunshot wound.  She was taken for treatment at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Gary Preston, 57, of Delmar, Maryland has been identified as the suspect.  Police found Preston dead at the scene with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.  He will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsy.

Police say they believe Preston, for unknown reasons, drove to the victim’s location where the shooting occurred.  There is no motive known at this time for the suspect’s actions. Police determined the victim is the estranged wife of the suspect. Details remain few at this time.  

"The suspect who is identified as the 57-year-old estranged husband of the victim was found deceased also suffering from an apparent gun shot wound he was found lying on the floor at this particular location," said spokeswoman for the Maryland State Police, Elena Russo

State police investigators from the Criminal Enforcement Division are conducting an ongoing investigation.  Crime scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division responded and are processing the scene. Assistance is being provided by the Crisfield Police Department.

Investigators believe the situation is contained to this attempted murder and suicide.
