UPDATE: Teen suspect arrested in connection to Md. high school bomb threat investigation

On Friday, deputies say a 16-hour investigation into a reported bomb threat against a local high school has resulted in the arrest of a 15-year-old suspect, in Maryland.

The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office says on Friday, a 15-year-old male student at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School was arrested for making the bomb threat against the school. A bomb threat was reportedly made on Instagram, on Thursday.

Authorities say the student and his father are cooperating with the Sheriff's Office and it appears that the suspect lacked the ability to carry out the threat.

The 15-year-old suspect has been charged with making a threat of mass violence and disturbing school activities.

He was referred to Juvenile authorities for disposition.

An investigation is underway after law enforcement says a threat against a Dorchester County high school was made on social media.

The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office says on Thursday, around 8:30 PM, they were contacted by students, parents, and concerned citizens about an Instagram post that had been made threatening to blow up Cambridge-South Dorchester High School, on Friday. Deputies say Maryland State Police and the Cambridge Police Department also received complaints.

Deputies report that their Criminal Investigation Division is leading an investigation and they are working with Facebook Security to help identify the suspect. According to authorities, deputies, troopers, and Cambridge officers raise security at the school overnight and at 4:00 AM. Law enforcement says five MSP Special Operations Division Explosive Detection Teams, other members of law enforcement, and school staff conducted a systematic search of the entire building and surrounding areas with negative results.

Authorities say the K-9 teams and support apparently remained on the scene as staff and students arrived and all persons entering the building were scanned, revealing negative results.

A reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect in this case.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office at 410-228-4141 or 410-228-2255.
