Truitt Street Community Center one step closer to opening

After months of construction, the Truitt Street Community Center is in its final stages of being complete.
The center is looking a little different nowadays with fresh new paint on the outside, but what's inside is what the after school programs are excited about.
It now has updated classrooms, a kitchenette, and pretty soon a freshly painted basketball court. Salisbury Mayor Jake Day says its a huge step in the right direction.
"This is the first step, one of several early steps, that this city is taking to take the progress and the development of our youth seriously. What you will see right away is several groups that we are working with that will be using the facility including a Lions Club, Kids Rock basketball and after school programming," explains Mayor Day.
Chesapeake Health after school programming will also be utilizing the space and there's even talks of a local church getting access.
There will be a soft opening of the community center next Monday night at 5:30 p.m.
