Threatening social media post investigation, Parkside sends robo call to parents

A concerning social media post, shared by a student in Wicomico County, had some people on edge Friday morning.
In the Instagram post, a student allegedly took a picture of a pack of gum and a rifle. The caption on the picture said, "Everyone come to school tomorrow I have gum."
In response to the post, Kimberly Pinhey, the principal of Parkside High School, recorded a robo call and sent it to families and students.
In the robo call, Pinhey says school resource officers told her about an Instagram post this morning. She says the post was reported and sheriffs investigated it. They determined it was not a serious threat, but the student who shared it was not allowed in school today. School went on Friday as scheduled.
"Students need to understand that social media posts or any type of comment that seems threatening are not funny nor a joke and will be thoroughly investigated and consequences will be applied accordingly," Pinhey said.
Pinhey goes on to say, they take school safety very seriously and they will work in close collaboration with the Wicomico County Sheriff's office to keep schools safe.
