Surfrider Foundation’s Ocean City chapter encourages people to go strawless this summer

The Surfrider Foundation's Ocean City chapter is taking part in a unique campaign called "Strawless Summer."
The goal behind this campaign is to reduce the use of plastic and the foundation says, an overwhelming amount of people and Ocean City restaurants have already taken the pledge to go strawless.
According to the Surfrider Foundation, people use 500 million plastic straws every day in our country, which is enough to wrap around the earth two and a half times.
The foundation says if we don't reduce our plastic pollution by the year 2050 there will likely be more plastic than fish in our oceans.
The foundation says going strawless will significantly reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans and our roadways, and the process of pledging is simple.
The Ocean City Surfrider Foundation's Vice Chair, Erica Amalfitano, said, "If you go to the website, our Surfrider Foundation, and you click on Ocean City's chapter, and then you sign the pledge, it gives you some tips for when you go to restaurants like maybe ask ahead of time not to use the straw."
Although the title of the campaign is "Strawless Summer", the Surfrider Foundation is encouraging people to take action now.
