Hawks start slow, fall in opening round of MEAC tournament

The Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team fell into an 8-0 hole to start the game and never really recovered, falling 78-68 to Norfolk State on Monday night in round one at the MEAC tournament.

"I thought our young men gave a great effort, obviously you can see we we're beat up, right now, we're playing with 5 freshman, 2 sophomores, and one senior," said UMES head coach Bobby Collins. "Injurues took a toll on us this year but we plan on coming back next year and working even harder."

The Hawks fell into a 14-3 hole, and would go into the locker room with a 37-27 deficit at half. They managed to play the Spartans 41-41 when the second half was all said and done.

Lone senior Logan McIntosh finished with a team-high 14 points, along with 5 assists. Freshman duo Myrine Thomas (12 points, 14 rebounds) and Cam Bacote (14 points) we're the only other Hawks in double figures.

The Hawks finish the season with a 7-25 record, but should return one of the more talented rosters in the MEAC next season.
