Perdue Farms invests millions in Milford, DE Plant for More Humane Chicken Slaughter

Perdu Farms is bringing a new system to it's Milford location in Delaware that will improve the treatment of it's chickens. The move, which is celebrated by animal welfare advocates, is part of the company's promise to convert all its operations away from shackling live, conscious animals and the electrical stunning of chickens. They're now installing a Controlled Atmosphere Stunning (CAS) system that will increase the level of carbon dioxide in the air to calm and sedate the chickens before bringing about an irreversible loss of consciousness prior to processing. Officials add that this will improve the poultry's  welfare, and will create a better working environment for employees.
