DSP: Sussex Co. man flees scene in golf cart after assault against girlfriend

A man was arrested after troopers say he assaulted his girlfriend and threatened her with a gun, in Sussex County.

Delaware State Police say on Wednesday, shortly before 3:30 PM, troopers were called to the 24000 block of White Street, Shawns Hideaway, for a physical domestic complaint. Troopers say further investigation revealed that during the altercation, the victim was dragged by her hair and choked by her fiancé, 53-year-old Mark Reedy of Millsboro. 

According to the report, Reedy then got a block semi-automatic handgun fro inside the residence and struck the victim on back of her head, while indicating that he was going to kill her and himself. The victim was reportedly able to flee on foot to a neighbor's residence, where she was then taken to a local hospital and treated for assault related injuries. 

Authorities say prior to their arrival, Reedy fled the residence on a golf cart and was later located riding around in the camping section of the development. 

Reedy was arrested and charged with aggravated menacing, strangulation, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, assault third degree, terroristic threatening, and unlawful imprisonment.

Law enforcement says a black semi-automatic handgun was recovered and seized from the residence, in Millsboro.

The 53-year-old was then turned over to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $65,000 secured bond.
