The blizzards effect on oyster harvests

The blizzard is not only affecting the roads, but also the harvesting of oysters.

Experts say the cold temperatures may not hurt the oysters, it just makes them harder for watermen to reach.

That's because in Dorchester County, the Choptank River is frozen solid, meaning people are having a hard time getting to and operating their boats.

Captain Larry Powley, with the Dorchester County Seafood Heritage Association said, "Well it kind of hurt the aqua culture guys because when they had those oysters on top, that really hurt them because the freezing ice kind of really affected them but the oysters oin the bottom will be fine, cold water is not going to bother them at all."

Once the ice melts away later this week, it should be smooth sailing once again.
