Salisbury one step closer to providing housing for domestic violence victims

In Salisbury, a $350,000 grant is tackling transitional housing for domestic violence victims.
The grant, which was approved by Salisbury council members Monday night will go directly to the Life Crisis Center.
Now the news of the grant isn't new, but the steps to get the ball rolling is less than a month away.
After mandatory training from the Office of Violence Against Women is complete, the Life Crisis Center can start helping victims by providing housing vouchers to women who need help paying their mortgage or rent.
"No one should be forced to stay in an abusive situation simply because they're worried about how they're going to put a roof over their head, or over their children's head," says Abbey Marsh, executive director for the Life Crisis Center.
The vouchers are the first part of this three-year grant, but this funding also provides for a place that can house a whole family.
Telamon Corporation will then help those using the vouchers and housing by providing job training to get them back on their feet.
