Local community center in jeopardy, asking for donations

"Without these people and this community center and everything we would be lost."

Joan Travisano is just one of many who's life has changed for the better since being a part of the Milford Community Center.

"We help those in need in any area. We're there for them with food clothing, diapers, money, housing, transition and it goes on and on," says Richie Portalatin, President of Milford Community Center.

But that help may soon be gone. The owner of the building is looking to sell and unless the community center can match the asking price, hundreds of people they help will be without food, shelter, after-school programs and so much more.

"We need to raise $400,000 this year so that we can buy this building and continue to keep this building floating helping those in need," explains Portalatin.

It's a place this group and so many others say can't be lost.

"We need to continue this, what were doing I feel in my heart a lot of children are going to get hurt. We are very effective in what we do."

The free services and items they provide seem almost endless and many say there's no other place like this in Milford. It's a place where all are welcome at any time.

"In order to enhance the next generation you have to have a place for them to go at whether they are old or whether they are young. you have to have a place for them to come and feel love and some of these children don't have that at home, but we provide that," says Andrew Scott, Executive Director for Milford Community Center.

Those who's lives have been changed by the Milford Community Center say it has to stay running.

"They're just a loving family and they support the community and they just go out of their way, I didn't want to cry, it just touches my heart," says Tranvisano.

Right now there's no time limit on when they have to raise the funds by, but we're told they hope to have the money by summer.

If you would like to donate, you can drop by the community center or even just mail money to 105 Northeast Front Street. Milford Delaware 19963.
