Crisfield holding Carvel Hall meeting this week

Its an issue that's plagued Crisfield for more than a decade finally a resolution may be in sight.

City leaders are set to vote on a zoning issue that might pave the way for a new development at the Carvel Plant.

A developer is expressing interest in setting up an energy plant that will take chicken manure and turn it into alternative energy.

But before the city can approve the project, the land has to be rezoned for that kind of use.

This Wednesday,  the mayor and council will come together for a second reading and vote on whether to rezone the Carvel Hall site.

City manager, Rick Pollitt, says its just the first step in a long process to sell the land.

"The city planning commission has recommended unanimously that the city council amend the zoning ordinance to provide a waste to energy process in our light industrial districts such as Carvel Hall. Thant's really the only thing on the table. Its a zoning text change."

Pollitt tells 47 ABC the site is a brown field, which means its not environmentally safe.

Anyone who buys it will have to first clean it up before developing it.

The meeting is set for 6 p-m at Crisfield high.

The public is welcome.
