Crews out preparing roads for looming winter storm

Crews have been out and about for two days preparing local roads the very best that they can. Wicomico County Roads Division has already used 200 tons of their road salt in preparation for the storm, and that is just the beginning of their efforts.
The recent arctic blast felt across Delmarva has already created challenges for snow crews. Officials telling 47ABC conditions on the roadways could deteriorate drastically overnight. Unlike the storm in mid-December, the frigid weather will help snow stick early and often.
Now under a Blizzard Warning, the gusting winds add another layer of challenges; snow drifts.
"I'm expecting a lot of drifting is what I expect. We run into a problem with that, especially in rural areas with winds gusting to 50 MPH, I anticipate a lot of drifts," said Lee Outen, supervisor of Wicomico County Roads Division. "Those are places we'll have to continually go back to throughout the course of the event, and probably over the next couple of days."
Officials say no matter the vehicle you own, if you travel tonight you may being doing so at your own risk.
And for these workers clearing roads in the dead of night in potential white out conditions, officials say civilians can do their part by staying put.
