Utility Company teams with non-profit to provide jobs

One local non-profit is teaming up with Delmarva Power to get people with autism jobs.

The program is officially being rolled out today but company officials say they started with a pilot program this summer.

So far about 12 people are employed in the special program that pairs adults with autism with positions that fit their skills.

The non-profit The Precisionists will do the in-take and training.

We're told applicants will go through a four-week program.

One company rep, Ben Armstrong, says it's a win – win for them because it helps those with autism and enhances the corporate culture.

"We know that companies have stronger collaboration and achieve better performance when we have more diverse groups of employees helping to support our goals overall as an organization."

Program organizers say nearly 70% of people living with autism are unemployed.

By 2025 the non-profit would like to find 10,000 jobs for people with disabilities.
