Tips on keeping pets safe in cold weather

With cold temperatures here to stay, animal experts are reminding folks to keep an extra eye on their pets.

Aaron Balsamo, the Executive Director for the Wicomico County Humane Society recommends keeping your pets inside as much as possible.

If they go out a good rule of thumb is to only let them out 30 minutes at a time. When they do come back inside, wipe off their paws to get rid of any substances like antifreeze or salt.

"During the winter salt can also tear up a sidewalk pretty good, so imagine what it could do your dogs paws," says Balsamo.
