Peak alert issued to help save town, residents needed funds

Delmarva is in the middle of a long arctic freeze leading to peak alerts, like the one announced by the Town of Berlin.

The town's electric department is asking its customers to voluntarily limit energy usage between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM through Thursday, January 4.

The peak alert is a way for both the Town of Berlin and its customers to save money.

By cutting back on the amount of wholesale power purchased during these high-priced periods, Berlin Electric can reduce its total power costs, which then are passed on to its customers.

"Don't run your washer during those peak hours which are from 6 am to 9 am.  Don't use major appliances, just use them at a different time," said Town Administrator Laura Allen.  "If there's a way to adjust the thermostats maybe it's a little more cool in the house.  Every little bit helps."
