Local plumbing company provides tips on the cold weather affecting your pipes

During these cold winter months, your home is also bracing the chilly temperatures.
47 ABC met with a local expert to get some tips for you to follow when the temperature drops below 32 degrees.
Hancock and Son Plumbing says that the wind is the biggest problem and when it picks up on a cold day your pipes can freeze.
They tell us that older homes are likely to be affected first and that's because of insulation.
Owner Leif Hancock says, "The big thing is disconnecting your garden hose from your outside faucets and closing your brick fence and make sure your crawl base is closed and sealed up. When the wind blows underneath your house that's when you typically see your pipes freeze and break.
If you are in a situation where your pipes burst, make sure turn off the water and stop it from running.
Hancock and Son is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week covering all of Delmarva.
