How to be more efficient with indoor heating during winter months

Temperatures are staying below freezing for a good portion of the week. That's why it's important to know how to be efficient with your heat.

HVAC experts say the first thing you should do is check your home for drafts.

If you feel a draft coming from either a door or window, consider installing weather stripping to eliminate the problem.

They also recommend that you hire someone to come and check your furnace every year.

Steve Pfeiffer with Harbourside Refrigeration in Ocean City said, "The biggest thing is have your furnace checked at least once a year make sure everything is working properly. As far as down here where we have a lot of heat pumps, most people turn their thermostats up and down and that's not the most efficient way. You try to pick a temperature and leave it at that."

They say having your furnace checked typically costs anywhere from $80 to $100 dollars, but it could save you a lot of money in the long run.
