Fugitive arrested after reportedly fleeing DMV, assaulting officer in Dover

Police say a felony fugitive was taken into custody, after police say he fled from authorities at the Dover DMV and assaulted an officer.
The Delaware Capitol Police say on Friday, at the Division of Motor Vehicles in Dover, they were alerted that 23-year-old Nafis Shakir, of Smyrna, was wanted by the Middletown Police Department on weapons related charges. Shakir then reportedly fled from police.
According to the report, following a brief struggle, the 23-year-old was taken into custody and found to be in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.
The arresting officer was apparently treated at Kent General Hospital.
Shakir is charged with assault second degree on a police officer, resisting arrest with force, criminal impersonation, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct
Police say he was committed on Capitol Police charges on a $14,500 cash bond.
