Boat slip rental fees at Merritt Harbor in Chincoteague going up

Officials announced at the Chincoteague town meeting on Monday, that boat slip rental fees at the Curtis Merritt Harbor of Refuge, will go up.

According to Chincoteague Town Manager Jim West, boat slip rental fees at the Curtis Merritt Harbor of Refuge will go up about 24 percent, after the council voted to raise the rates.

West says that for many years, the Harbor has seen no increase or very minor rate increases in slip rental rates.

West says that they have been experiencing a deterioration in the infrastructure at the Harbor and that they have been in reaction mode, performing emergency repairs over the budget.

West says that this is an effort to be more proactive than reactive.
