Annual Santa’s Workshop event provides toys to Salisbury kids

Salisbury kids got the Christmas experience of a lifetime Thursday night. They were able to enjoy some hot chocolate, cookies and free toys all at the 10th annual Santa's Workshop event.

The annual event is put on by the Salisbury Housing and Community Development Department.

The event began years ago with the goal of giving at least one toy each to 300 Salisbury kids, who might not get a Christmas present otherwise.

As the event has grown, so have the amount of presents! Kids were able to enjoy a slew of different gifts and books on Thursday.

Event organizers said they were glad kids enjoyed the event and they hope this helps out the local community moving forward.

Susan Phillips, the Director of Housing and Communication Development said, "So we're trying to enhance the community and develop and rejuvenate the communities and the neighborhoods."

Salisbury Mayor Jake Day added, "You can see they're having fun they're sliding and playing in the snow, what's left of it and sitting on Santa's lap and Santa's quite jolly over there, they're having a good time."

The department said they used to host this Christmas event in the Church Street area, and this is the first year they've held it at the Newton Street Tot Lot.

They said for a new location, they had an incredible turnout.
